Ermenegildo Zegna
The Lanificio Ermenegildo Zegna – Ermenegildo Zegna Wool Mill – was founded in
Only twenty years old, Ermenegildo Zegna set a goal for himself and for his newly founded textile business: to concentrate on the production of fabrics for menswear and to reach with his fabric the highest quality levels in the world. He pursued this goal during many years of constant work and research towards
- the selection and acquisition of the best raw materials;
- the gradual increase of investments in spinning, weaving and finishing machinery, granting a high quality production;
- the training of highly professional personnel;
- the creation of a development team.
Already in the 1930’s, these efforts allowed Zegna fabrics to reach the same standards and finishing characteristics as the best reputed producers of the time – the English –, with a peculiar added value: that exquisitely Italian touch for shades and colour.
In these years, and largely anticipating all his competitors, Ermenegildo Zegna decided to name all his fabric and had Zegna marked on every cloth woven selvedge. In 1938 the Lanificio was selling its branded fabrics in 40 foreign countries: by the beginning of the 1940’s, Ermenegildo Zegna had a complete control on the distribution of his fabrics, selecting only the most qualified tailors and cloth retailers in the whole world. The next step of the Italian entrepreneur to increase the brand awareness of his products, was to invest in advertising – once more, largely in advance of all competitors.
In the 1960’s the Company passed into the hands of the sons of Ermenegildo, Aldo and Angelo. The decade was in some respects a turning-point in the history of the Company, that decided to integrate its productions by entering the field of ready-to-wear clothing: suits, jackets, coats, shirts, knitwear, ties, casual wear, all destined to the top segment of the market.
Ermenegildo Zegna products are distributed through fully owned or franchising boutiques: Milan, Florence, Paris, London, Madrid, Berlin, Moscow, New York, Tokyo, Seoul, Peking, Shanghais, Canton, Taipei, Singapore and also by some 1000 best retailers in the world.

Lanificio Ermenegildo Zegna Collections are developed under the principles that have always been leading the vocation of the Zegna Group towards high quality and innovation.
Raw materials are not only carefully selected amongst the best fibres available on the market (“Superfine Merino Wool” from Australia, “Cashmere” from Chinese Inner Mongolia, “Kid Mohair” from South Africa, etc.), but are processed into fabrics, paying the highest attention to their own characteristics, in order to bring out their quality and performance. That is the one precise path to follow in order to build a complete Collection, developed to meet any need of the international clientele.
The sartorial taste of Lanificio is well represented by classic clear-cut fabrics, like Trofeo®, a world best seller, Electa®, Traveller®, High Performance®, Tropical, in addition to the “Wool/Silk” blends and to the articles that represent a real innovation not only in style but also in terms of actual technology and ease of use like Cool Effect®.
For those who want to wear elegant jackets with a more sportive look, cashmere is blended with wool and and with cotton in Cashco®.
Moreover, Ermenegildo Zegna presents a Collection of very precious articles, in a limited production due to the rarity of the raw materials involved: 15Milmil15, 14Milmil14, 13Milmil13,
In order to introduce its high quality fabrics, Lanificio Ermenegildo Zegna uses its own distribution organization: DEA Division, which is ever since devoted exclusively to this important segment of the market, represented by the best tailors/retails and fabric retailers of all the main markets in the world.
